Friday is the 3rd Anniversary of Katrina. It changed so many lives and the communities we live in forever. I hope you don't think I'm talking too much about the weather but "severe" weather like hurricanes can have a profound effect on our area. September 10th is the peak day for storms which means historically it's the most active time of the year. What really matter is when and where one strikes ANY time of the year.
This past week we were watching Fay and now Gustav is a hurricane. One weather man reported the GFDL computer model performed the best for Fay and since Gustav is following a similar path he is relying more on that prediction. Unfortuantely GFDL has Gustav entering the Gulf this weekend. After that we'll have to wait and see.
Weather reports usually show only computer 4-6 models. Actually there are many more, each using a different set of criteria in an attempt to predict a storms' path.
Have you you ever heard of the term "Spaghetti" model? Click on this link to see why it's called the "Spaghetti" model. http://www.boatus.com/hurricanes/hurricane_spaghetti.asp
