Today is Friday, the end of the work week for many. As the saying goes TGIF! (Thank God It's Friday!) It's also Back to School for many of the public school students (including 3 of my grandkids), and my grand daughter Elise 1st Birthday. Happy Birthday Elise!
Now with the kids back in school things should be a little less hectic for parents, especially those with jobs who must plan summer activities for their kids while they work. Now that kids (and parents) are back to a normal schedule I usually notice an increase in calls. I noticed this pattern several years ago when I was wondering why my calls decreased this time of year. Just like clockwork calls drop off right before school starts and increase shortly after. It became obvious this was the reason for the change. (If you're in business it's helpful to notice trends that affect it.)
Here's a story that might interest you: One day while shopping for lumber my wife came along. She was surprised how particular I was about the material I bought. She watched as I carefully looked down the length of each 2 x 4. She asked what I was looking for. I explained I look at each board and select only those that are "relatively" straight and without knots in places that might affect the integrity of the work I was doing.
I've been in this industry for over 35 years and know how to shop and avoid inferior materials that could cause problems later. That is the value of experience. My goal is to satisfy my customers so they call me again next time and refer me to friends, family and neighbors. This isn't intended to sound like I'm bragging but I take pride in my work. I like to go home at the end of the day knowing that I did a good job for my customer. That is a good feeling. Have a good weekend!
